Unlock the Past commenced in 2009 as a collaborative venture involving a team of expert speakers, writers, organisations and commercial partners to promote history and genealogy through:

• major events– supporting and attending events by others and running innovative major events of our own. Since 2010 we have run over 100 Unlock the Past events. These have included
  • expos
  • roadshows
  • regional seminars
  • history and genealogy cruises
  • Australia’s first ever battlefield tour – to the Northern Territory in 2012
• a publishing brand– guide books for researchers – we have published (in both print and ebook form)
  • over 80 basic guide books since 2010
  • several miscellaneous series titles since 2016 – specialised books with too limited a market to interest most other publishers
  • 30 handy guides since September 2017
• general and events directories online

Our planned 2018-2019 events include:

• 6 seminars in Australian capital cities in 2018 – plus one in Seattle, USA
• a DNA themed roadshow to six Australian cities in August 2019, with an in-depth 3-day event in Sydney
• 3 genealogy cruises

At the VAFHO Family History Expo we will have

• most of our 80+ guide books – all at 10% discount at the expo
• all of our 30+ handy guides
• other specials on the day

… and will be contributing to the expo prize pool
