The Port Phillip Pioneers Group (PPPG) is a family history group and was formed in May 1970 as a special interest group of The Genealogical Society of Victoria (GSV). The purpose is to bring together members who can establish lineal descent from Pioneers who settled or were born in the Port Phillip District of the Colony of New South Wales (the present State of Victoria) prior to 1 July 1851.
The State of Victoria in Australia was known as the Port Phillip District of New South Wales prior to separation on 1 July 1851. Settlement commenced at Sorrento in 1803, then other areas. Melbourne, on the northern shore of Port Phillip Bay, was settled in 1835.
We celebrate this special time in our Pioneers’ and Victoria’s history.
