Searching marriages at Vic BDM

For the past fortnight searching marriages on the Victorian BDM only site has not been working.

When doing a marriage search you will mainly see the message:

Your search did not produce any results. Please refine your search and try again.

It is not something that you are doing wrong!

You have one option if you wish to purchase a marriage certificate – find the Registration Number and Year – this is the only search that works for marriages.

Enter ONLY these fields:

  • Registered events – tick MARRIAGE box
  • Registration number then year – as per this image
  • Click on SEARCH

The desired marriage index entry will be displayed – you can then purchase this entry if you wish.

Remember that this site works best if you register with your correct email address and make sure you are logged in when you search and order certificates.  You would be amazed at how many people type their email address incorrectly when required – by registering you avoid making this mistake.

HOW TO FIND THE REGISTRATION NUMBER AND YEAR FOR A MARRIAGE?

They are on the old Digger CDs – up to and including 1942.

There are many people on relevant Family History Facebook pages or Family History Mailing Lists who have access to the Digger CDs and will generously help out fellow Family Historians.

OR

If you’re a member of a Family History Group, a Local Historical Society, or similar, check if they have the Digger CDs and are prepared to help out until the problem is sorted.

And remember – this isn’t the time to ask for a vague search involving dozens of records – be considerate to all.
